Oktoberfest 2016 Once more, we have an excellent and eclectic mix of music for this year’s event.  We have solo singers, we have 8 piece bands, we have rock music, we have covers, we have new compositions – we have entertainment of the highest quality and choice. Thursday 22 September First up, and playing their first Oktoberfest gig are Kashmir Crows. Kashmir Crows are a 6 piece band from Dundee. They play an eclectic mix of rock, soul, blues and funk which merge together to create a distinctive warm expressive sound reminiscent of early Black Keys, Elbow and The Doors. Influences include Stevie Wonder, The Specials, Stereophonics, Hendrix and. Comprising of Ian Black (Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Rajan Vaid (Lead Guitar), Angela Branney (Keys), Aiden Ferguson (Rhythm Guitar and Violin), Alex Campbell (Bass) and Craig Armstrong (Drums). Expect fat groovy riffs, Delivered with raw emotion and sincere passion. Not to be missed. Next up, and guaranteed to keep things moving along is Rock Bottom.  They played for us last year and are back by popular demand.  Playing a mix of covers, the inimitable Nori and the band will continue to play for your delectation. Following on are Still Standing Still, already well known around the local area with their blues rock performances at a number of festivals.  With a mixture of covers and originals, SSS will crank the music up a notch and maybe start getting people on the dance floor? After an outstanding debut last year, Cosmic Fish are back again to play their eclectic collection of covers to keep the atmosphere building for our headline act …. ………which this year, is another new band for Oktoberfest.  They are Jive Candy from Dundee. The band are constantly changing and adding to their vast set. They take pride in making sure that most genres and eras are covered. This includes the latest chart hits along with 70s and 80s hits from Stevie Wonder, Prince and Queen. A mixtures of 60s classics from The Beatles and The Kinks as well as the latest hits from Plan B, Stereophonics, Kings of Leon and The Killers make sure that there is something for all to enjoy. Friday 23 September Our first act tonight helped us out last year when we had a late call-off and as with so many of our other acts, we just had to ask him back this year.  The name is Neil Morrison and he has spent the year between Oktoberfest events, gigging the length and breadth of the country, headlining and supporting, bringing his unique mixture of self-written songs and other very popular music to a rapidly growing audience. Tequila Rose are next to the stage on Friday.  A local Dundee band, they play to entertain and get the audience engaged with the music.  They play a wonderful selection of covers which demand vocal support and much movement!
Sunstorm have played Oktoberfest before and have always been very well received.  They contribute hugely to the party atmosphere with their popular selection of well- known covers and will certainly keep the mood going. Next up are The Windows, an unashamedly rock band, playing their own music and bringing a whole new aspect to the event. Also previous visitors to the Oktoberfest and also very welcome returners.  Hugely appreciated last year, with their very tight playing, they will be hugely appreciated again. We are extremely privileged to have one of Scotland’s finest bands as our headline act on Friday.  The inimitable Miami Vince, the purveyors of easy listening rock, is a group of musicians brought together by a love of the smooth Rock and Pop sounds of the 1970s and 80s. These are serious players who like to entertain with a blend of 70s & 80s surprises. Check out the setlist for an example of the great tunes you might hear Saturday 24 September The last night of Oktoberfest begins with the excellent songs and singing from Taylor Ray Dillon.  Another young singer/songwriter who helped out last year, is back again with her amazing voice, guitar playing and very listenable selection of songs. Saturday night is traditionally party night at Discovery and we have three bands playing back to back to entertain, delight and amuse you with their mix of covers, all played so professionally and highlighting the wonderful live music scene we have in Dundee First of the three is Tarpaulin, then Pretty Shameless and Oktoberfest stalwarts and favourites, Jack Rabbit Slims.  They will really get the party going and it will be finished in the best possible style by ………… ………. Judge Hardie and the Crimes.  What’s to say about JH and the C?  A highlight of last year’s event was when the power dropped, lights dimmed and JH and C just carried on regardless.  If you have never heard or seen this band, then you are in for an attack on the senses – they make you laugh, they make you dance, they just make you have a fantastic time. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the line-up for this year’s Oktoberfest.  Please come along and enjoy yourselves with our unique mixture of music and refreshments, all beside one of the country’s most iconic visitor attractions – RRS Discovery – what’s not to like?  We are all looking forward to seeing you there and thank you in advance for contributing to the Rotary Club of Dundee’s continuing fund-raising efforts.  All the funds raised from Oktoberfest go to local charities.
Please understand that the lineup of the bands can change at any time for a variety of reasons, we will make every effort to keep this page on the website accurate.
